Founded in 1893
Originally called the Krasny Resort this sprawling Victorian home featured a dance hall/barn that use to be located to the North of the property. In the late 1800’s the Fox Lake region was an isolated hunting and fishing paradise, attracting wealthy sportsmen who constructed private clubhouses in the area. Most of the area’s early residences where farmers who trapped, hunted and fished these areas.
The Roaring 20’s
The 1920’s brought a name change to “The Roxana Resort”. By this time there was over 400 clubhouses, dance halls, bed & breakfasts and Hotels in the Chain O’ Lakes area. Improved roads and water transportation by steamboat revolutionized the tourism for the Fox Lake Illinois area. By this time also the railroad tracks expanded making construction materials as well as ice to be transported faster and less expensive as in the past.
Sail & power boat races were first conducted on Fox Lake in the early 1900’s. While the sailboats continue to race at the Pistakee Yacht Club, the powerboat races reached a peak as a popular spectator sport in the Fox Lake Area during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
